At the banks of river Moselle beautifully surrounded by vine-yards lies Trier, former Roman city and possibly the oldest city in Germany. Traces of the Roman time are omni-present, but most dominant is the Porta Nigra, today the largest preserved Roman city gate north of the Alps.
